More on Eating in Western PA

This is my favorite dive in Ohiopyle. They have excellent ice cream. Also, occasional mice. Julie persuaded me we didn't need ice cream this trip.

If you need BBQ, and you happen to be in the vicinity of west Confluence, you're in luck. I really enjoyed the ribs, macaroni salad and baked beans I tried.

Sisters Cafe in Confluence

As near as I can tell, this is where the movers and shakers in Confluence meet.

Oh NO! No more O!

Julie & I met up with my old friend Whit Monday. After crawling through a bookstore for a while, we wanted lunch. We thought we'd stop my the Original Hot Dog on 286.

But it was closed. Not just for Memorial day - for good.

Julie & I had planned to go down to Oakland and got to the original Dirty O, but we ran out of time.

I really wanted those fries.

More from Ohiopyle

Can you tell this is one of my favorite places? Sometimes I get selfish and want to have a little less company from all these tourists while I'm there, but I really can't blame them for visiting.

Saturday in Ohiopyle

Our drive yesterday was long but uneventful. We met Dad and Anne in Confluence around 9:30pm.

We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day to play today. We started with breakfast with the rest of town at The Sister's Cafe. Then Julie, Anne & I took a little bike ride while Dad mowed the lawn. Naturally, before too long, we had to get ourselves to The River's Edge for lunch. The Old Folks left for Murrysville after lunch, so Julie and I went over the hill to Ohiopyle.

Get on your bikes and ride!

Today, Julie & I are wandering 600-odd miles east into western Pennsylvania. Yes, it's the annual Memorial Day trip to visit my dad. Possible activities for this trip include an overnight or two in Confluence, a bike ride through the Big Savage Tunnel, being tourists at Kentuck Knob, a gallery hop along East Carson to visit The Silver Eye, and maybe a day in Oakland to visit the Carnegie and The O.

Of course, this trip hits right on a weekend of fun things to see and do in STL, so I'm a little disappointed. I would have LOVED to go to Mad Art last night for Unknown Hinson and 7 Shot
Screamers. Also, the Webster Film Series got their hands on a new 35mm print of Eraserhead, and they're playing it this weekend. Eraserhead!

Oh well. Hope everyone has a good long weekend. I'll probably post from PA, but it'll be even more spotty than usual. It kind of depends on the state of Dad's networking, and I'm a little burnt out on tech support right now.

Wish us luck.

Friday Night in Lake St. Louis

Last Friday I drove way out into the suburban nightmare to support my favorite un-band, Fishpaws.

If you've never heard of the video game Rockband, these pictures will make no sense to you.
IMG_4696

I designed a Fishpaws logo and made t-shirts for Julie & Cath. Here's Julie, Julie's rum & coke, & Ann modeling her Duck Room shirt.
