Staying Home all January

It's been 2.5 weeks since my last blog post, and I've been sick the whole time. For those of you who haven't been listening to me whine, here's the rundown. I started getting sick the day we visited the trains. By New Year's Eve I was too sick to go out for dinner & party. Thanks to a monster course of antibiotics and much sleeping I've only missed one day of work, but really, this is getting silly. I'm sure my throat will stop hurting soon, but I'm getting impatient.

Julie made jello today.



I think it might be medicinal.

Holiday Recap: But What About the Cats?

Yes, the cats loved the attention of having us around the house all day, and Rudy forgave us immediately for staying out all night Christmas Eve.



The tree has stayed upright so far, and only a couple of ornaments have mysteriously fallen off.



I'm going back to lounge on the sofa, now, if Pammy will let me have my seat back.

Holiday Recap: Baking

I was a lazy baker this year, but JD did coerce me into stealing the secrets of The Little Bears from Mom while she was here.



I still rolled them too thin.



Mom's a rough baker to work for. The results were pretty addictive, though.

I bought the most obnoxious overkill bike chain & lock for my new scooter. Rudy is still enjoying its plain brown wrapper.

Garage Sale Time - July 11

JD and I are hosting a happy little garage sale this Saturday morning. I'm sure it will burn me out on being sociable for the rest of the weekend. Maybe if I'm ambitious I'll get up early Sunday morning and visit the new City Garden downtown, but I'm not holding my breath. So far the only activity I'm sure of for this weekend is sitting around outside, trying to sell off some desks, a sofa, some spare computer parts, a bunch of dishes, and a friend's kids clothes.







This will be my second and last garage sale of the year (possibly decade).

What I did last weekend

So, I've been catching up on photos. Last weekend I pulled apart my computer and replaced some guts. Well, a lot of guts. It's been years since I updated anything, and working with RAW photo files was getting really, really slow. Don't even ask about video.



Here's a peak after the new motherboard, new processor, new video card, new optical drive and new memory went in, but before I plugged in all the power.

Photo and video edits are moving much faster now.

The Cat Update

Yes, I know you're just dying to know how the other housemates are.
They're fine.

Rudy continues to test gravity at every opportunity and will crawl into any part of any bag available to him.


Pammy is my cyber-protector. Nothing will go wrong with my laptop if I just stop using it. It is her Princess Pammy Pillow of the day..

I think I finally have a rye bread recipe I like, thanks to Julie and her researches.

house work

We decided to refinish the kitchen cabinets last weekend.
This is how they started: good bones, but lots of wear and stains.


This is how they ended - faux distressed and much lighter.


The panel next to the dining room is now a chalk board.

Quiet week

I've been baking. My left arm is strong enough to knead bread again.

New Gadget

Last night I brought home a new smartphone that should replace my old cellphone and pda. Configuration is still under way, but you know darn well what I played with first - the camera. It's atrocious by any highbrow standard, and I love it. It's my digital Holga.





Julie played with it, too, this morning.
I wondered why she was putting a penguin on my neck...

Cat Party in my living room

Some mornings you just see strange toms staring in your window.
We call the neighborhood stray Roofus. He's quite agile.

At home

Since we haven't had a random cat pic for a while, here's a confusing scene: Pammy being nice to Rudy.

She usually won't willingly share a full sized be with him, let alone cuddle next to him and groom him. He must have been sick. She always comes and sits on me when I'm low.

Hibernation at Home

Sorry for the 2-1/2 week hiatus. My evenings were filled with frivolity and/or Nyquil for a while. More reports will follow shortly.

Friday, snow day @ home

My fever was gone and I would have headed back to work Friday, but we got some snow. SLU actually shut down for the first time in ages. I stayed home, coughed, and nursed Julie (who was taking her turn at fever and ills).

Been sick, at home

I'm better now.
